Hello and welcome to the 9th Annual Canes Deer Sale.
We hope you have all had a good year.
Kath and I have been farming deer for 33 years now and it
has to be said, there has never been a better time to be a
deer farmer. It is now the second year we have been able
to comment on record venison returns, near record and
stable velvet returns, and a steady demand for quality
trophies. All the ducks in a row at the same time! And
what is really heartening is that this situation is ripe for
attracting new entrants into the industry. It is really great
to see some younger people interested in the future of
deer farming
So with all of that, there has also never been a better time
to invest in quality sire stags and breeding hinds to improve
the genetic base and profitability on your own farms.
We have a good selection of stags on offer again this year.
with something for everyone. Plenty of nice clean velvet
heads, along with the right goods to yield extra value at the
end of their lives as viable trophies.
It’s great to get feedback from farmers on the stags purchased
in previous sales, confirming we are on the right
track, not only with trophies, but also with velvet weights.
Matthew’s son Lot 4, Tag 168 from last years sale cut a
very respectable 9kg of velvet at 4yrs.
